By reading one of the style court post , I decided to share with you one of my passion and one of my collection : FRAMES
As I'm specialised in mediterranean XIX th century paintings , I always need frames. Sometimes the painting has its original frame but sometimes and sometimes I have to admit I don't or my client doesn't like it so I have to change it.
I have an entire collection but I sometimes don't have the right one because of the size or the style
A frame is as important as what is inside and it can also be as expensive as it is inside .
gilded antique frames
other kind of frames
I love this dutch style frame
italian wood frame from the XVIII th century
empire frame
orientalist frame with a picture
accumulation
frames are a little bit different for drawings or watercolors
this louis XVI style frame with a bow matches perfectly with the watercolor, it is ver classic but timeless
find an antique pair of frames is rare...these ones are perfect for engraving or drawing or portraits
a frame can change everything
for me this one doesn't go well with the painting even if the colors match together
This american painting in Pollock's style is from Charles Christopher Hill
do you like it , if not what would you choose ?
I like modern painting with old frames
Modern painting with a regency style
1906's mediterranean painting with gilded frame
Do you pay attention to frames ? Do you like them ?

I can't visit France without coming home with my arms full of frames. They are so much cheaper there and always fabulous.

I love frames. I love the old ornate gold gilt ones. I love them empty just as much as with a picture in them.

I agree with My Melange...
Frames to me, are just as important as the art, but also art themselves.

Hi Melanie
You have a beautiful collection of frames. I agree with you totally that a frame is very important. Your frames are lovely enough to stand on their own and are works of art by themselves.

Those are fabulous frames...I too prefer the old frames with the modern painting...it gives them a better feeling.

What a beautiful collection of frames. So may times the frame can make or break the art it encases. I especially like the 1960's landscape! Your new blog design is wonderful as well. Happy New Year.

Those little wooden frame with the carved details are amazing! They are artworks in and among themselves.

I have lots of old frames and have had a few restored. You're so right that sometimes the frame can cost more than its contents - I have a few of those. Love that Orientalist frame!
