As long as I remember , I've always been around my father workshop ( atelier ), after school He came to pick me up and he drove me to his " world"

I was young and little and everything looked woderful to me

I'm 33 years and everytime I go to my dad's atelier , I still have this magical feeling

a little "bout de toile " par ici

Just by going there , it is so good to make a trip to my childhood

Every time I have to choose for the shop , for the show room  it is the same question :

which fabric to choose ?

velvet or silk ?

Cotton or linen ?

plain or graphic ?

Classical or modern?

beige or red ?

Paisley or suzani

If it is really , it is colorful with ethnic design : Suzani is my favorite

but whar would you choose for this special armchair , I'm waiting for your advice ....

PARIS ...FRANCE...FRENCH SAVOIR FAIRE

I'M BACK FROM PARIS

IN MY SUITCASE ,  I have Ladurée 's macarons , I have souvenirs but above all I have photos and " tendances " ( trends)

Before to go to a fantastic party , before to go to salon maison et objets , my first stop was for the Prelle's showroom. One of the eldest fabrics factory in France , it was created in 1752 , it sums up perfectly what french savoir faire is .This factory made most of the part of the fabrics in Versailles

They have beautiful archives , it is the perfect place for an antiques dealer who is the daughter of an upholsterer

 

I had the chance to see the exhibition "Josephine or the passion of flowers and textiles"

HERITAGE

The man I wanted to introduce to you is :

Patrick Frey !

I love the fact that his factory , his passion ,his work have something to do with HERITAGE and family !!!I'm a BIG ( Huge) Fan

So He and one of his son Vincent did me the honour of answering of some of my  questions

 

 

From time inmemorial , fabrics have been  a currency, an evocation of a trip and above all an invitation for a trip . Through several questions , we will travel with you .

MA : Could you quote  a country and associate it with a fabric from your large collection

MA: Let’s go on with our trip , associate a smell and a pattern

PF : fleur de troene ( privet flowers), the perfumed candle and flowered fabrics

VF : Fig tree of Sicily , my favorite candles' perfume with a supple and faded fabric : Shabby

 

MA:a city or a place and a pattern

PF: New York City and all the whole new collection

VF : south of France and the Beauvoir collection from Braquenié

 

MA : a matter  and a fabric

PF:all the new fire resistant fibres in the Pierre Frey's collection with the fabrics

VF: a piece of massive oak and our fabric " Shanghai" , plain, heavy, tough and gorgeous with a touch of silk

PF: each trip , each walk are many ideas for fabrics ...

 MA : my last question is  if you had to remodel the cabinet of Dr Freud , which is an entire trip to a new world ; which ambiance would you recommend , which colours would you suggest , et which fabrics would you advise ?

PF: at this time , I would have done the same .Nowadays , some colorful and brightful  colors , with "happy" and flowered patterns . A call of change through  the tropics

VF a surrounding may be a litlle more zen and "japanising" , some natural matters ( linen and cotton) and neutral colors . Our ecological fabrics : " PURE NATURE"

Advice ? ....

Some readers or bloggers ask me advice for decoration or antiques .

I don't forget anyone but the problem is that I miss time so I answer step by step

One of my reader from Washington DC , ask me some advice about a fabric for a pair of bergères.Let's call him PLT

This is one of the picture , my reader sent me

bergère Louis XV , begining of the XIX th century.

The "problems " were to choose a fabric that will fit into an " eclectic decoration" and that will value these antiques. The picture above doesn't depict the living room where they go today.

PLT moved to another flat and now these "bergères will have to match with zebra fabric and expresso colored wooden floor and chocolate brown sofa.

First, I think to value these armchairs , we have to choose something timeless . I think damask fabric will be the perfect choice .

My favorite choice will be a kind of rustic damask that looks kind of modern with an old Louis XV pattern , it is a fabric from Pierre Frey ( I guess you will already know it) It is called Apollon , and there is the plain fabric that matches with it.( so you can for example make others pieces with it , or curtains)

I will choose a cream color , but actually with this fabric you can several choice of colors

the color I will choose , first ....But

Otherwise I will also propose some timeless and classical fabric

Lelievre , Galanterie, coton and silk 170 euro / m

such as droguet de soie , I will another time propose the beige one

Prelle, Damas armoisin, 200 euro /m

I think anyway the best color is anyway beige , cream ...

I could have proposed hundreds of others damasks but I prefer to choose the right ones
